The mission for Helping Hands North, Inc. is to coordinate community efforts to provide immediate relief to reduce the level of distress for families in our community.
Helping Hands North, Inc. plays an integral role in the daily lives of its Northern New Hampshire residents dealing with temporary challenges in their lives. It strives to provide immediate services or referrals to all distressed community members. This New Hampshire non-profit corporation, recognized as a 501(c)(3) public charity, provides clothing, infant formula, baby food, diapers and other necessary supplies for struggling families. It provides food and clothing help as well as volunteer opportunities for community seniors. It operates a crisis food distribution through the NH Food Bank. Much of its operating expenses and distributed food costs are raised by the operation of a Thrift Boutique, where the general public can make donations in return for good, clean practical or fancy clothes that others have donated.
Helping Hands began as an informal community chest organization in 2001. It operated under the 501(c)(3) umbrella of the Upper Connecticut Valley Community Coalition, until receiving its own recognition from the IRS in 2011. During this period, a majority of the region's employers were either closed or drastically cut back on their employment and the need for temporary safety-net services dramatically increased. Helping Hands works in partnership with the local Ministerium composed of the regional churches, with Tri-County CAP, a regional social services agency, Child and Family Services and with other family support agencies in Canaan, VT and Pittsburg, NH, as well as with social service agencies throughout the State.
Importantly, all of these services are provided to the public by volunteers, including the staff in its Main Street, Colebrook, NH location and its board and officers. If you would like to be a Helping Hand of the North, please consider a donation of your time, excess food stocks, good, clean and fashionable clothing or most importantly, funds to help us bring Help to our North Country Communities.
